Concentric, Double Offset, and Triple Offset Architectures

The dynamic behavior of a butterfly valve depends on its shaft design relative to the disc and sealing plane. While concentric valves offer efficient service in low-pressure networks, extreme media conditions necessitate offset shaft structures to minimize friction-induced wear.

What are the key technical differences between Wafer, Lug, and Flanged Butterfly Valves? +

Wafer Butterfly Valves are designed to fit between two pipeline flanges using through-bolts. They are lightweight, cost-effective, and easy to install, but cannot be used as end-of-line terminations.

Lug Butterfly Valves feature threaded inserts (lugs) on the outer housing. This allows bolts to be secured from either side without disturbing the adjacent pipe, making them suitable for downstream maintenance isolations and end-of-line service.

Flanged Butterfly Valves have integrated body flanges, typically utilized in large-bore pipelines (DN350 and above) to support heavy loads and prevent leaks caused by pipe bending moments.

When should I specify a Triple Eccentric (TOV) over a Double Eccentric Butterfly Valve? +

Specify a Triple Eccentric Butterfly Valve when your system exceeds class limits (e.g., ANSI Class 300 to 600), operates under temperatures beyond 200°C (steam, hot oil), or requires zero leakage (bubble-tight shutoff) without elastomer seat degradation.

A Double Eccentric valve is preferred for standard chemical and municipal water operations, where the soft polymeric seat (like PTFE or RTFE) provides excellent corrosion protection, but cannot withstand high temperatures.

Why is PTFE lining used instead of elastomer seats like EPDM in chemical plants? +
