1. When should I choose a triple offset butterfly valve over a standard resilient-seated design?
Triple offset butterfly valves are designed for demanding applications involving high temperatures (exceeding 200°C/392°F), high pressures, or thermal cycling. Their metal-to-metal seating eliminates friction during operation and provides bi-directional, zero-leakage shutoff. Resilient-seated valves are more cost-effective for low-temperature water, air, and mild chemical services where soft elastomers (like EPDM or Nitrile) can operate within their temperature limits.
2. What are the key face-to-face standards for a 3-inch (DN80) butterfly valve?
The standard face-to-face dimensions for a 3-inch (DN80) butterfly valve are governed by API 609 (Category A for concentric valves, Category B for offset valves), ASME B16.10, and ISO 5752. Wafer and lug designs have much shorter face-to-face lengths than flanged valves, helping save space and weight in piping manifolds.
3. How do PTFE and EPDM seats compare in corrosive environments?
PTFE seats offer excellent chemical resistance, making them ideal for strong acids, solvents, and corrosive chemicals. They operate reliably at temperatures up to 200°C. EPDM seats are well-suited for water, steam, alcohols, and mild alkalis up to 120°C, but they are not recommended for hydrocarbon fluids or petroleum-based oils.

Torque is the force required to open or close the valve. It is affected by line pressure, media type, velocity, and seal design. Oversizing an actuator increases initial costs and adds unnecessary weight, while undersizing can prevent the valve from closing completely or operating reliably under load. 5. Can double eccentric butterfly valves be used for modulating control service?
Yes, double eccentric butterfly valves offer good control characteristics, typically between 20 degrees and 70 degrees of opening. Their design minimizes seat wear during throttling because the disc lifts off the seat early in the opening stroke. However, they should not be operated too close to the seat for long periods, as high-velocity flows can cause cavitation and damage the trim.
6. What testing standards do KR Valves undergo before shipment?
